The 2012 Ford Edge is set to be available with four-cylinder EcoBoost power with the addition of a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, and reports are emerging that the vehicle will be able to return some fairly impressive fuel economy numbers. According to Ford inside News, the EPA has concluded testing, and the 2012 Ford Edge 2.0 EcoBoost has managed to eek out 30 mpg highway. That’s three miles per gallon better than the comparable 3.5-liter V6-equipped 2011 model and two miles per gallon better than the 2012 Ford Escape. Ford inside News also reports that the engine will continue to turn out 240 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque when tucked into the New 2012 Ford Edge.



The 2012 Ford Edge with the EcoBoost engine also gets a six-speed automatic transmission with an active warm-up system to reduce internal friction at start, and an active grille shutter system that closes as vehicle speed increases to improve aerodynamics and fuel efficiency. The 2012 Ford Edge revealed their engine at the 2010 Chicago Auto Show and was destined to go on sale by December that same year. However, production of the EcoBoost powered 2012 Ford Edge is now scheduled to start later this month. The Ford Edge faces fierce competition. Ford’s own Flex and Explorer SUVs are other options, while the Nissan Murano and Mazda CX-9 are more athletic alternatives. The choice is difficult, and the Edge’s high-dollar sticker makes things no easier.
